The Housemaid by Freida McFadden

(3 customer reviews)

“Welcome to the family,” Nina Winchester says as I shake her perfectly manicured hand. I smile politely, taking in the marble hallway. Working here is my last shot at a fresh start. I can reinvent myself. But I’ll soon discover that the Winchesters’ secrets are far more dangerous than my own…

Every day, I clean their stunning home from top to bottom. I pick up their daughter from school. I prepare delicious meals for the family before retreating to my small room on the top floor to eat alone.

Description

I try to ignore how Nina deliberately makes messes just to watch me clean them up. How she tells strange, unsettling lies about her daughter. How her husband, Andrew, seems more broken with each passing day. But when I look into Andrew’s deep, pained brown eyes, I can’t help but imagine what it would be like to live Nina’s life—the walk-in closet, the fancy car, the seemingly perfect husband.

I only slip into one of Nina’s pristine white dresses once, just to see what it feels like. But she soon finds out… and by the time I realize that my attic door only locks from the outside, it’s far too late.

But I reassure myself: the Winchesters don’t know who I truly am.

They don’t know what I’m capable of…

A New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal bestseller and winner of the 2023 ITW Thriller Award, this twisty, unputdownable thriller will keep you hooked well into the night. If you loved The Woman in the Window, The Wife Between Us, and The Girl on the Train, The Housemaid is a must-read.

This book is amazing it keeps you in you feet where you just want to finish the book. The twist is amazing. The only reason I give it a 4 it’s because the beginning was a bit slow like if it wasn’t getting anywhere but overall such a good book.

This is the first time I’ve read a book by this author. Absolutely phenomenal. I couldn’t put it down and when I had to, I couldn’t wait to pick it back up. It’s an emotional roller coaster with regard to the characters and has a lot of surprising twists, which I absolutely loved. I highly recommend.

I really enjoyed this book. It is very suspenseful and kept me on the edge of my seat. I’m sure that I will be checking out other books by this author.
