Deadly Animals by Marie Tierney

(3 customer reviews)

Ava Bonney is no ordinary teenager. While most kids her age are preoccupied with typical teenage worries, Ava has an unsettling obsession with the macabre, particularly the decomposition of dead animals. Living by a busy highway, she often finds roadkill, which she collects and studies in secret.

Description

But one night, Ava makes a disturbing discovery: the body of her classmate. Afraid that her dark fascination will be exposed, she anonymously alerts the police. When Detective Seth Delahaye takes on the case, Ava can’t stay away. As more teenagers go missing, Ava’s curiosity grows into obsession, and she is determined to uncover the killer’s identity—before she becomes the next victim.

With a growing sense of urgency, Ava races against both the police and time to stop the hunt before it’s too late.

I absolutely loved this book. It was so well written, I can’t believe that this is the author’s first book. It was creepy and suspenseful with an amazing lead character in 13 year old Ava. I live where the book is set and my children went to the same school as Ava and this made me feel much more emotionally invested. I hope we meet Ava again in other books

Amazing read. Very different to my usual thrillers and I enjoyed it more because of that. Usually child protagonists are a bit much but this was no ordinary child

  3. Soph

I loved everything about this book. Scary, funny, tense, heartbreaking. Read it when it first came out but the main character has stayed with me. She’s basically a teenage Holmes but it completely works. Whenever Tierney’s next book comes out I will be dropping everything to read it.
