Description

When Libby Day was seven, her mother and two sisters were brutally murdered in what became known as The Satan Sacrifice of Kinnakee, Kansas. Libby survived—and famously testified that her fifteen-year-old brother, Ben, was the killer. Twenty-five years later, the Kill Club, a secret society obsessed with infamous crimes, tracks down Libby and pressures her for more details. They hope to find evidence that might prove Ben’s innocence.

Hoping to profit from her tragic past, Libby agrees to revisit the events of that night, reconnecting with the people involved and reporting her findings to the club—for a fee. But as her search takes her from seedy Missouri strip clubs to desolate Oklahoma towns, the truth that emerges is more terrifying than she ever imagined. Libby soon finds herself back where she started—on the run from a killer.

I first read Dark Places back in 2014, and it was the first novel I encountered that was written from multiple points of view. I devoured it—truly. From the very beginning, the story gripped me, moving at a fast pace that kept me hooked. Each chapter made me more eager to find out what would happen next.

Some parts of the book were hard for me to read, especially because of my own life experiences and growing up in poverty. It’s not just a gripping story; it evokes raw emotions and forces you to confront thoughts and feelings many of us would rather avoid.

This is a masterful story, full of depth and complexity. Unfortunately, the movie adaptation didn’t come close to capturing the rich layers of the characters or the intricate perspectives presented in the book.

If you’re looking for an unforgettable story that will keep you on the edge of your seat, I highly recommend Dark Places. Ten years passed since I first read it, and I still think about it to this day.

Not really a crime genre junkie but I definitely could not put this one down- read it in 2 days. I know some people have mixed feelings about the ending- definitely give this a read to see what you think!

Every chapter is a new twist and turn. Great read! Hard to put down. For a slow reader, finishing in 5days was impressive for me!
